Using the Matching Engine#

OSBridge's matching engine does the heavy lifting, but knowing how to interpret and filter results will save you time.

Score-Based Strategy#

First PR? Target 60-80% matches in repos with CONTRIBUTING.md
Building confidence? Try 50-70% matches to stretch your skills
Going deep? Filter by programming language and repository

Red Flags to Watch For#

Issues with no maintainer response for 30+ days → repo may be abandoned
Issues with 10+ comments → likely complex or contentious
Issues labeled 'help wanted' but with a linked PR → someone is already working on it
Issues older than 6 months → may be stale or deprioritized

Tip

Comment on the issue before starting work. A simple 'I'd like to work on this — here's my approach' prevents duplicate effort and shows respect for the maintainer's time.
